Mindrift review: is it legit, and what does it pay?

Mindrift is a real company: Toloka AI BV of Amsterdam runs it and signs your contract. Every rate it shows is a ceiling, and you are paid per approved task, not per hour logged. From Mindrift’s own site, terms and blog, read 22 October 2026.

We do not list Mindrift and earn nothing if you apply there.

Is Mindrift legit

Yes. Mindrift’s terms name Toloka AI BV, a Dutch company in Amsterdam, as the other party to your contract. Its about page says Toloka owns Mindrift. You join as an independent contractor, not an employee, so no tax is taken off your pay.

Mindrift’s own blog says the work is not a guaranteed income. Task flow comes and goes, and there is no minimum number of tasks a month.

For a general way to check any platform, see the AI training job scam checklist.

What the work is

Mindrift’s tasks are writing hard prompts, judging AI answers and explaining the judgement, and building training data. Its homepage lists more than 90 domains, among them STEM, coding, law and consulting.

There are two tiers:

  • All-access tasks are open to anyone, with no AI experience needed.
  • Specialized projects need real expertise in your field.

Mindrift’s FAQ says 70% of its contributors hold a master’s degree or a PhD. That is Mindrift’s own claim.

What Mindrift pays

Mindrift gives three different ranges on its own pages:

  • Its homepage says entry-level work pays $15-30 an hour and domain experts $60-100+.
  • Its homepage FAQ says $15 to $100+ an hour, depending on the project and your field.
  • A post on its blog says roughly $30 to $90 an hour.

The open roles on its apply page are more specific. On 22 October 2026 it showed 23, and every rate was an “up to” figure:

  • Medicine Expert: up to $70 an hour
  • Senior CAD Engineer: up to $69 an hour
  • Senior CFD Engineer: up to $69 an hour
  • An in-person study for native French speakers in New York: up to $100 an hour
  • On-site data collection in Los Angeles: up to $200 an hour

The last two are in person.

Mindrift pays for completed and approved tasks. Each task carries a fixed reward that you see before you start. An hourly figure is Mindrift’s way of describing that reward. A rejected task earns nothing.

How you get paid

Mindrift pays through Payoneer or Tipalti, which includes PayPal. Which one you can use depends on your country.

Its blog says payouts run twice a month, on the 5th and the 20th. Its homepage calls the schedule bi-weekly. Mindrift sets no minimum payout of its own: the payment provider you choose sets it, and the provider may also charge a fee.

How you get in

Mindrift’s homepage gives three steps:

  1. Apply with your CV.
  2. Complete a technical assessment.
  3. Get access to the platform and its tasks.

Its blog calls the assessment unpaid, and says identity checks run through Persona. Mindrift does not say how long a reply takes.

Countries Mindrift turns away

Mindrift’s eligibility page names two groups of countries:

  • Restricted, with no onboarding and no payments. The list includes Russia, Belarus, Iran, Cuba, North Korea, and China including Hong Kong and Macau.
  • Unsupported, for verification, payment, tax or contract reasons. The list includes Kenya, Switzerland and Taiwan.

There is no list of supported countries. You also need a payment provider that works where you live. Some roles add their own location, such as the New York and Los Angeles studies.

What people report

These come from public reviews, not from Mindrift’s own pages:

  • Some contributors finish onboarding and then wait weeks or longer for tasks.
  • Some report a suspended account or a blocked withdrawal, and human support that is hard to reach.
  • Some describe glitches in the assessment or the AI interview.
  • Some say a rejected task paid nothing, and that the assessment took a lot of time.
  • Others say the tasks are simple, the hours are flexible and payment arrives on time.

What Mindrift does not publish

  • What contributors earn on average
  • How many tasks or hours you can expect
  • The minimum payout amount
  • How long a reply to an application takes
  • A list of the countries it supports
  • A referral programme, on any page we read

Roles open now that publish their pay

Mindrift’s specialized projects recruit engineers, doctors, lawyers and software developers. The platforms this site lists post a rate on each role, and each pays this site a referral fee if you are hired through a link here. Mindrift is not one of them, and nothing here links to it.

Today we track 87 open roles for engineers, 97 for doctors and clinicians, 97 for lawyers and 120 for software engineers.

Red Pen Jobs is independent. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting for Mindrift or Toloka in any way, and we do not recruit on their behalf.
