What the work involves for physicists

Physics postings ask for a PhD or a postdoc and pay accordingly. Most name a subfield and want real depth in it: condensed matter, quantum information, atomic molecular and optical physics, statistical physics, biophysics, high energy and mathematical physics have all been posted as separate roles. The work is writing graduate-level problems, solving them properly, and grading a model's derivation line by line, flagging the place where it reasons plausibly and arrives somewhere wrong, which is the failure a non-physicist cannot see. Listed skills run from physics mastery and written technical communication to specific things like ab initio polarizability calculations and numerics for particular lattice models. Nothing in these roles asks for machine-learning experience. Remote, hourly, project-based, fitted around a research post. Pay is whatever each posting lists.

Pay is what each posting lists, in US dollars: an hourly rate, or a fixed amount per session or per task. We never estimate or convert one into the other.
