Ethos review: the work, the pay and the screening
Ethos is one of the 8 platforms this site tracks. Everything below comes from Ethos's own public pages or from our check of its roles each morning.
Red Pen Jobs is independent. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting for Ethos in any way, and we do not recruit on its behalf.

The short version
Ethos is an expert network that matches experienced professionals to paid projects, including AI training. You build one profile, Ethos reviews it, and you may be invited to a recorded AI voice screen. Postings state an hourly rate and a weekly range of hours. Pay terms are set for each project, and Ethos promises no set amount of work. Apply if you have senior experience in your field.

What Ethos is
Ethos describes itself as an expert network that matches professionals to paid opportunities: expert calls, market research, AI training projects and full-time roles. We list only its AI training projects.
We are not part of Ethos, we do not recruit for it, and we are not its agent, representative or partner. How this site earns money sets out the one commercial link there is.
How to get hired
- Open a Ethos role on this site and press Apply.
- Create your Ethos profile.
- If Ethos invites you, complete a short AI voice screen. The call is recorded and transcribed.
- Ethos matches your profile to opportunities, including roles like this one.
You create one Ethos profile. Ethos postings say its team reviews your application and that you may be invited to a short AI voice screen as a next step. Ethos matches you to opportunities from that profile, so a profile can lead to roles other than the one you saw.
Ethos's expert terms say selection combines AI tools with human review, that you can ask for human review of an AI decision that affects you, and that its verification provider may ask for a government photo ID and a live selfie. Its privacy policy says a voice call records your microphone audio and produces a written transcript.
Most postings ask for several years at a top firm in the field. How long matching takes, we do not know.

Most Ethos roles listed here describe the same project: an AI lab training its language model on professional presentations and documents, posted once for each profession. One Ethos profile covers them all, so there is no need to apply to each one.
The roles we list ask experienced professionals to help train an AI lab's language model on professional work in their field, such as documents and slide decks. Postings state an hourly rate and a weekly range of hours, such as 5 to 20, fully remote, on your own schedule.
How much work reaches you once you are matched, and how long a project lasts, is not stated on Ethos's public pages, and we have not done the work ourselves.
What it pays
Across the 363 hourly Ethos roles we track, listed rates span $70–100 an hour in US dollars, exactly as each posting states them. That is a span, not an average. The only pay figure we ever show is the one on the posting. We do not estimate, and we do not convert currency.
When and how Ethos pays out for completed work is a separate question: see what we do not know.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Fully remote, on your own schedule. The posting we read says 5 to 20 hours a week, or more if you want.
- You can ask for a human to review any decision Ethos's AI agents make about you.
- Ethos says its ID provider, Persona, checks your ID and selfie, and Ethos does not receive or store a copy.
- One profile is matched to many opportunities, so you do not apply to each role.
Cons
- Ethos's terms promise no set number or frequency of projects.
- A project that is cancelled or ends early is generally not paid, unless Ethos says otherwise.
- Preparation and research time is unpaid unless Ethos approves it in writing first. You must also finish its expert tutorial.
- Invoices are due within three days of finishing a project. Miss that, and pay may be delayed or lost.
- You are an independent contractor: no benefits, your own expenses and your own taxes.
- The voice screen is recorded and transcribed, and Ethos can ask you to re-verify your ID at any time.
What is known, and what is not
Known
- Postings state an hourly rate and a weekly range of hours.
- Work is remote and on your own schedule.
- One profile is matched to many opportunities.
- Ethos may invite you to a short AI voice screen after reviewing your application.
Not known
- A link to each role.
- When a role closes.
- The payment schedule for a given project.
- How much work there is.
The questions we cannot answer yet, in full:
- A link to each role. Ethos has no public address for most roles, so every button here opens Ethos's sign-up through our link. You build one profile and Ethos matches you; the role you clicked may or may not be among your matches.
- When a role closes. Ethos does not publish closings. A role leaves this site 21 days after we last saw it posted, so one may close on Ethos sooner.
- The payment schedule for a given project. Ethos's expert terms say payment terms are set at the start of each project, typically on a weekly or monthly cycle or at completion. A posting does not say which applies.
- How much work there is. How many projects reach an expert once matched, and how long each runs.
Who should apply, and who should skip
Mid-career and senior professionals: consulting, finance, investor relations, audit, communications, sales, product, medicine and academia, among others.
Read the requirements before the pay. Most postings name the kind of firm they want experience from.
Apply if
- You have several years of experience in the role's field, ideally at a well-known firm.
- You are comfortable with a voice screen run by an AI.
Skip if
- You are early in your career. Most postings ask for years of senior experience.
- You need guaranteed hours. Ethos's terms promise no set amount of work.
Is Ethos legit?
Ethos is a real company with public role pages and a working sign-up. Its role pages say it is backed by Andreessen Horowitz and General Catalyst. That is what we can verify from the outside, and it is all we claim.
We have not done paid work on Ethos. This page carries no testimonials, no payout stories and no numbers about how many people have been placed.

How we checked
Pay, role counts and openings on this page come from the Ethos postings we read each morning. The last check was on . Each figure is the one a posting states. We never estimate, average or convert one.
What Ethos says about its screening, pay and referrals comes from its own pages, listed below and last checked on . Anything those pages do not say is listed under what is not known, not guessed.

Questions
- Is Ethos legit?
- Ethos is a real company with public role pages and a working sign-up. Its role pages say it is backed by Andreessen Horowitz and General Catalyst. That is what we can verify from the outside, and it is all we claim.
- What is Ethos?
- Ethos is an expert network that matches professionals to paid opportunities, including AI training projects for AI labs. You create one profile and Ethos matches you.
- What does Ethos pay?
- Across the 363 hourly Ethos roles we track, the listed rates span $70–100 an hour in US dollars, as each posting states them. Individual ranges vary widely by role, and every role states its pay. We show what each posting lists and never estimate.
- How does Ethos screening work?
- You create a profile and Ethos's team reviews your application. You may then be invited to a short AI voice screen, which is recorded and transcribed. Ethos matches your profile to opportunities.
- How does Ethos pay?
- Postings state an hourly rate and a weekly range of hours. Ethos's expert terms say payment terms are set for each project, typically weekly, monthly or at completion, and that invoices are due within three days of finishing.
- Can I work on other platforms while on Ethos?
- Ethos's terms call taking part in projects voluntary, and the pages we read name no exclusivity clause. Work for Ethos clients must go through the Ethos platform, and you cannot take a project for a client that competes with a company where you hold a position.
- Why do Ethos projects end early?
- Either side may end the agreement at any time by written notice. Ethos may also end it immediately for a material breach. A project that is cancelled or ends early is generally not paid, unless Ethos says otherwise.
- Does Ethos charge a fee to join?
- None of the Ethos terms or privacy pages we read mentions a fee charged to experts. The terms do say you cover your own expenses for projects.
- Is Ethos open in my country?
- None of the Ethos pages we read lists countries. The terms say Ethos decides which countries and currencies it pays in. You must be 18 or over and entitled to work as an independent contractor.
- What if I hear nothing after applying to Ethos?
- None of the Ethos pages we read says how long review or matching takes. Its terms promise no set number of projects, so a profile may wait a while for a match.
- Do you work for Ethos?
- No. This site is independent of Ethos and is not its agent, recruiter, representative or partner. If someone signs up through a link here and completes their first paid project, Ethos pays this site a referral fee. It never changes what the reader is paid.
What happens when you apply
The apply button sits on each role page, never on a page meant to be shared. Pressing it sends you
through our own /go/ redirect, which records that a role was clicked (no cookie, no
personal data) and then on to Ethos.
Ethos has no page for each role we can link to, and most of its roles here are one project. The button opens Ethos sign-up through our link; one profile is matched to all of them.
If you're hired and complete your first paid project, Ethos pays this site a referral fee. Your pay is unaffected. Ethos credits the link when you sign up through it. Already have an Ethos account? Then no referral applies.
Checked . The list is rebuilt every morning; roles that disappear from Ethos are marked closed rather than deleted. Read the full disclosure and who runs this.
