micro1 vs Outlier: posted roles or task tracks

micro1 posts individual roles, each with its pay on the listing, and screens with one AI interview. Outlier sorts work into tracks, each with its own pay page and no platform-wide rate, and screens with an identity check and a skill assessment. We list micro1: if you are hired through our link and complete 10 hours, micro1 pays this site a referral fee, and your pay is unaffected. We do not list Outlier and earn nothing if you apply there.

The work

micro1 hires domain experts as remote contractors to train and evaluate AI models. A role is a listing: it names the field, the pay and the countries it is open to, and you apply to that listing. Roles pay hourly or per task, and the listing says which.

Outlier has no listing to read first. You pick a track, qualify, and see the tasking rate before starting a project. Its FAQ says available projects “vary and may not always match your specific field.”

The pay

micro1 currently shows hourly pay of $6–400, and half of its hourly roles advertise a ceiling between $70 and $150. Outlier publishes a figure per track: “Earn up to $15 USD/hr” for English generalist work, “$34/hr” for a Latin America coding track and “Earn Up to $31 USD/hr” for its Japan track. Its generalist page also says contributors earn on average 7.5% more through Missions, its surge-pricing programme, with top contributors earning 11% more.

A listed rate is not promised hours or income. Neither platform states how much work reaches you once you are approved.

Getting in

micro1’s screening is an AI interview of 20 to 40 minutes after you apply to a role. How long a decision takes afterwards is not stated.

Outlier’s sequence is visible: create an account, verify your identity and phone number, pass a skill assessment, then start tasks. Its FAQ does not state whether onboarding is paid. It publishes no minimum payout amount.

Staying in

micro1 does not publish how long a project runs or how many hours reach you, so ask before counting on a payday. A role can state thousands of openings, and how many people are taken on is not visible.

Outlier’s Terms say you are “not required to use the Services or perform Tasks at any specified time or day,” and give no right to continued work. What follows is what people report, not verified: contributors describe an “empty queue” after a batch ends or a quality flag lands, and some describe accounts closed over an alleged duplicate with no appeal.

Which one

If you want a posted role with its rate in view and a single interview, micro1’s listings fit that. If you want to take tasks from a track that matches your language or specialism and can accept that the queue may empty without warning, Outlier’s track model fits that.
