micro1 is engaging Coding Authors (CCS / CIC / CPC certified) to contribute their expertise to a dynamic project for a valued customer. In this role, you’ll apply your coding expertise to create the training material that helps next-generation AI systems learn, reason, and perform. Your work will shape how models understand real-world medical coding. No prior experience in AI is required, your domain knowledge is what matters.
Scope of Work
- Author realistic medical coding scenarios, clinical documentation excerpts, and coding questions across inpatient, outpatient, and professional fee settings, with accurate ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS code assignment.
- Write detailed answer keys and rationales that explain code selection, sequencing, modifiers, and Present on Admission (POA) indicators, citing the relevant official guidelines and coding conventions.
- Build evaluation rubrics and test cases of varying difficulty, including complex and ambiguous documentation, to assess how well AI models apply coding rules.
- Review and revise existing coding content for accuracy, clarity, and alignment with current ICD-10-CM/PCS Official Guidelines, AHA Coding Clinic, and CPT guidance.
- Collaborate with project stakeholders using both written and verbal communication to clarify requirements, resolve documentation ambiguities, and ensure data integrity.
- Deliver high-quality feedback on coding guidelines and complex cases to support project workflow improvements and enhance AI model understanding.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), AAPC Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC), or AAPC Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credential.
- Thorough expertise in ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT, with hands-on coding experience in a hospital, physician practice, or coding audit setting.
- Experience writing or reviewing coding content, such as training materials, audit findings, coder education, or exam preparation.
- Ability to explain complex coding decisions clearly and concisely in writing.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, demonstrating meticulous attention to detail and clarity.
- Access to current ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT code sets and Official Coding Guidelines.
