Data analyst roles in AI training sort into four jobs

Analyst postings in AI training cover four different jobs under one title, and the fit test differs for each. The sorting below comes from the postings and each platform’s pages, read 13 October 2026.

Review data for quality and personal information

Of the 15 open analyst roles, 4 are micro1 postings for data analysts and data privacy analysts. They ask you to review business datasets for accuracy and completeness, flag anomalies, and check that personal information has been redacted or anonymised. One posting adds that you should apply written rubrics consistently across large volumes of repetitive review.

The senior role also asks you to build the grading criteria. It prefers SQL, Excel and a BI tool, and lists an advanced degree or professional certification as a plus.

Posted rates on these roles span $30–60 an hour. Two of the postings are limited to US-based workers.

Grade the model’s analysis

Mercor’s Data Analysis Expert listing is the clearest example. You write an analysis problem from work you shipped, with the data, the question and the constraint, then grade model answers. The checks it names are whether the query answers the question asked, whether a join fans out, and whether a metric tracks the outcome.

It also asks you to catch analysis that is technically valid and would mislead a decision-maker, through selection effects or leakage. Mercor’s Business Intelligence Analyst network and Sovrano’s Data Science Expert role sit in the same group.

Posted rates span $40–125 an hour.

Review finance and consulting analysis

Finance or consulting research accounts for 4 roles. micro1 prefers sell-side research experience for one and rates-market experience for another. The rates role asks you to find lookahead bias, overfitting, data snooping and unrealistic transaction-cost assumptions in AI-written backtests. Ethos wants a hedge fund analyst for its slide-deck project, and micro1’s consulting role asks for client-facing consulting experience and PowerPoint skill.

Posted rates span $80–350 an hour, the widest band of the four. Several also sit in the accountants guide.

Rate AI answers on a Gemini project

Turing’s Business Analyst role for US educational raters pays $30 an hour. It is a 16-week project at 20 hours a week, with eligibility for more. You research online sources, solve analytical problems and review AI answers.

The unusual requirement is an existing Gemini account with genuine prior use. You submit your conversation history as a file so Turing can verify it.

Tools the postings name

PostingTools or skills named
Mercor Business Intelligence Analyst networkSQL, Tableau or Power BI, data modelling and warehousing
Sovrano Data Science ExpertPython and SQL, statistics, experimentation
micro1 Senior Data AnalystSQL, Excel, BI tools (preferred)
micro1 Quantitative Rates ResearcherPython with pandas, numpy and scipy, or R
micro1 Data Analyst rolesNone named; QA process and data privacy

Only one posting mentions certification, and it lists it as a plus.

How this differs from ML engineering

An analyst role asks whether an analysis is right. An ML role asks you to build, train or compress a model. The analyst postings ask for judgement about queries, metrics and bias, not for building a model.

If you can train models too, read the machine learning engineers guide and the software engineers guide.

Pay splits by kind of role

All 15 roles pay by the hour. The median ceiling is $100, the upper quartile is $150 and the top is $350, against $80 across the site.

The median hides the split. The data review roles sit at the low end of the band and the finance roles at the top. Which kind of role you take sets your rate more than the title does.

Check whose data you would handle

  • Reviewing PII. The micro1 review postings involve personal information. They do not say whether you see real records or masked ones, or where the data is processed. Ask the project lead before you start.
  • Analysis from your job. Mercor asks for a problem from work you shipped. Your employer’s data, schema, metric definitions and queries belong to your employer. Use a public dataset or an invented case.
  • Your Gemini history. The Turing posting says you may redact personal details before sending it. It also says Turing deletes the data of people it does not select within a reasonable period. Redact first.
  • Regulated employers. If you work at a bank or fund, ask your compliance team before taking paid outside work. The finance postings do not mention it.

Where you can work from

Of the 15 roles, the site lists 11 as open to a reader in the UK and 15 to one in the US. The roles limited to the US by their location line or text number 4. The consulting role names the US, UK and Canada. Sovrano lists the US, UK, Ireland, Canada and Australia.

Which to try first

If you have three or more years as an analyst and live in the US, micro1’s review roles match the wording closest. If you shipped analyses that decisions rested on, start with the Mercor listings and expect a pool, not a project. Read Mercor’s interview guide or micro1’s before you sit either.

What the postings do not say

  • Whether a pool leads to work. Of the 15 roles, 2 are standing pools. Mercor says a match can take from a week to several months.
  • How much review volume there is. The micro1 postings state openings, not how many hours reach each person.
  • What happens to your data after the project.

This site is not affiliated with any platform named here, and passing a screening is not a promise of work.
