Is Mercor legit, and what does it pay?

Mercor is a real company. Its terms name Mercor.io Corporation, based in San Francisco, and its pages publish a pay schedule and a breach notice. Pay is weekly, and rates differ by role, so read each role’s own rate before you apply. From Mercor’s own pages, read 17 October 2026.

Mercor is a real company, and it says where

Mercor’s terms of service name Mercor.io Corporation as the operator, with an address at 181 Fremont St., San Francisco. They are governed by Delaware law, and most disputes go to individual arbitration.

The Mercor homepage describes the business as organising human expertise for the AI industry. It lists press coverage from CNBC, Forbes, TIME and Bloomberg. It links to a trust centre, a newsroom and a privacy notice.

The terms call experts service providers, not employees or partners. That is contract work. It comes with no guaranteed hours, which Mercor’s contracts page says too.

How Mercor hires

Mercor asks for a resume, any assessments a role sets, and a work-authorisation check. Then comes an AI interview of about 20 minutes, which Mercor’s help pages describe as its screening step.

Our guides cover each stage:

What Mercor pays, as the postings state it

Mercor puts a rate on each public posting. This site reads those postings every morning. Of the 198 Mercor roles open now, 176 list an hourly rate, 22 pay per completed task.

Hourly roles run $15–450 an hour. The median advertised ceiling is $85. A quarter of them cap at $60 or below, and a quarter at $120 or above.

These are the figures postings state, not what any one person earns. Mercor’s contracts page says a deliverable-based contract has no minimum hourly guarantee. It pays only once all assigned work is submitted and approved.

How and when Mercor pays

Mercor’s payments page says wages are released every Wednesday at about noon Pacific time. Each payout covers the previous week, which runs Saturday to Friday in Indian time. The pay week guide explains that boundary.

Money arrives through Stripe Connect in supported countries and through Wise elsewhere. Mercor picks the provider for your region. Contracts are in US dollars, and the provider converts them when it pays out.

Mercor lists three further details:

  • Standard Stripe payouts are free. Instant payouts carry a 1.0% fee.
  • Stripe holds a first payout for 7 days.
  • Bonuses and work-trial pay follow a separate schedule from wages.

Mercor deducts no tax. Its taxes policy leaves that to you. If hours are questioned, see which Mercor hours get paid.

Who can apply

Mercor can only onboard and pay people in its supported countries. The page lists 107 of them across five regions. Anyone elsewhere cannot be given contracts.

Each role can also set its own eligible countries. Check the posting before you spend time on an interview.

The 2026 data breach

Mercor has said that it had a security incident. Its update of 25 June 2026 says the incident began in late March 2026. It traces the cause to compromised versions of LiteLLM, an open-source tool.

Mercor says a very small subset of its nearly five million experts had sensitive information affected. It says it has no evidence that the data was used fraudulently. It said it would notify affected experts directly and offer free TransUnion identity protection.

If you applied before then, read the notice yourself and watch your accounts. Mercor’s pages do not say how many experts were affected.

Referral disclosure

This site lists Mercor roles. If you are hired through Mercor after applying from a link here, Mercor pays this site a referral fee. Your pay is unaffected. Mercor’s referral policy bars anyone from presenting themselves as a Mercor recruiter, and we do not.

What Mercor does not publish

  • How many hours of work a project will offer once you are hired.
  • A time to a decision after you apply. Mercor says it cannot give feedback on individual applications.
  • Whether hiring keeps pace with the openings a role states.
  • How many experts the 2026 breach affected.
  • A human interview as an alternative to the AI one.

This site is not affiliated with Mercor, and passing the interview is not a promise of work.
