How Ethos picks experts
You build one profile, and Ethos matches it to projects. You do not apply to each role separately.
- Create an Ethos profile with your work and education history.
- Ethos’s team reviews it. The expert terms say selection combines AI tools with human review.
- Ethos may invite you to a short AI voice screen. Its privacy policy says the call is recorded and transcribed, and AI writes a summary and evaluation.
- Before any project, you complete Ethos’s expert tutorial. Ethos may ask you to repeat it each year.
Ethos may also ask for a government photo ID and a live selfie through Persona, its verification provider. The privacy policy says Ethos receives only the result, not the ID itself.
You can ask for a human to review any AI decision that affects you. The terms also say that choosing not to use Ethos’s AI tools may lower your visibility.
What Ethos pays
Ethos postings state an hourly rate and a weekly range of hours. The 846 Ethos roles open on this site list $70–100 an hour. Most of them describe one AI lab’s project, posted once for each profession.
The rate for a project is confirmed in writing before it starts. The terms say pay is prorated on the time you spend, as Ethos reasonably decides. That can differ from the project’s scheduled length.
Three rules can cost you pay:
- A project that is cancelled, does not happen or ends early is generally not paid.
- Preparation and research time is unpaid unless Ethos approves it in writing first.
- Only work done through the Ethos platform and accepted by the client is paid.

How and when Ethos pays
Ethos pays through Revolut and Wise, according to its privacy policy. Its subprocessor list names Revolut for expert payouts. The account must be in your own legal name.
The payment cycle is set for each project: weekly, monthly or on completion. Ethos tells you which at the start.
Invoices and reports are due before the end of each payment cycle, and within three days of finishing a project. Late ones may mean late or lost pay. You cover your own expenses and taxes, and Ethos asks for tax documents.
Who can work with Ethos
You must be 18 or over and legally able to work as an independent contractor where you live. Ethos chooses which countries and currencies it pays, at its own discretion. Its pages publish no list of supported countries.
Most AI training postings ask for several years of senior experience, often at a well-known firm.
Conflicts that can rule you out of a project
Ethos’s terms carry strict conflict rules, because many of its projects are expert calls for businesses.
- You cannot take a project about a company you worked for in the last six months.
- You cannot work for a client that competes with your current employer.
- Former auditors and accountants cannot discuss their audit clients for three years.
- Some employers require their consent first. Getting it is your job.
Terms to read before your first project
- Everything you produce for a project belongs to the client.
- Clients may record and transcribe sessions, including your voice and image.
- Either side can end the agreement at any time by written notice.
- Disputes go to arbitration in London under English law, with no class actions.
