Mechanical Engineering Expert

Sovrano AI Contract, part-time Posted Yesterday New US, CA, DE +9

Role details

Skills the posting asks for

  • Statics and dynamics
  • Thermodynamics
  • Fluid mechanics
  • Materials
  • CAD
  • Finite element analysis
  • Manufacturing
  • Machine design

AI labs need engineering checked by people who have built and tested real parts. A model can size a beam from the textbook formula. Knowing why the real part cracked at the weld takes an engineer who has seen it happen.

This listing is a waitlist, not an open position. No project is attached to your application. Applying puts you in the network we draw from when a mechanical engineering project opens. We ask for one thing: a short AI interview about your field, about 20 minutes, that you take once you have applied. We review applicants from time to time, check whether each profile fits the kind of projects we run, and reach out directly with the scope, hours and rate when there is a match. Timing depends on demand, so you may hear from us soon or only after a while, and we will not contact everyone on the list. You commit to nothing by applying.

Work varies by project. Depending on the project you might write statics, thermal or materials problems with worked solutions, review other engineers' work against a checklist, or grade AI answers on design and analysis. Hours, scope and rate are set per project and sent to you in writing before you start.

On a project you write realistic mechanical engineering tasks and the answer an experienced engineer would give, review other experts' work against an acceptance checklist, and evaluate AI answers for wrong analysis, ignored failure modes and designs that could not be manufactured. Reviewers check everything, and you are paid for approved work.

Key responsibilities

  • Write realistic mechanical engineering problems with the answer an experienced engineer would give
  • Review other experts' work against an acceptance checklist and explain what is wrong and why
  • Evaluate AI-generated analysis and designs for errors, ignored failure modes and manufacturability
  • Document your reasoning, including the standards and material data you rely on
  • Apply reviewer feedback and revise until the work is accepted
  • Work from public or illustrative designs only, with nothing proprietary from an employer or client

Requirements

  • Degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field, in progress or completed
  • Fluent written English
  • Reliable internet connection and a quiet place to work
  • Willing to complete a short AI interview
  • Willing to work without AI assistance where the project does not allow it

Ideal qualifications

  • A degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field
  • Hands-on design, analysis or manufacturing experience in at least one area
  • Able to explain engineering reasoning in plain written English

Nice to have

  • Professional engineering licensure or chartership
  • Finite element analysis or CFD experience
  • Manufacturing or test experience
  • Prior work on an AI training or data platform

What success looks like

  • You apply and complete the short AI interview
  • When a project matches your background we contact you with the scope, hours and rate
  • You decide whether to take it, with no obligation either way
  • Work you do is reviewed and you are paid for approved work.
